I opened the drum shop on April 1, 1998. It was April Fool's Day and everybody thought I was joking. I had worked at a local music store for 14 months and decided that I knew everything that I needed to know about the drum retail industry and decided to do my own thing.
I rented an 800 sq. foot room in the back of an old mall in Lafayette (La Promenade Mall). I started with a terrible mix of inventory - 8 drumsets, 18 cymbals, 6 snare drums and only a handful of parts, sticks and accessories. Needless to say, the first year was incredibly tough.
Fast forward to September 30, 2001 and the mall burned down. We did not lose a lot, we just ended up with a huge mess and no place to call home. The next day, I found our current location and started moving in right away. This ended up being the best thing to ever happen to us, it was just tough to see at the time.
Over the next several years, we steadily grew. One thing that I do feel good about is that I was always able to hire incredible people. We have had very little turnover and have always been able to keep a very diverse, very competent and very nice group of drummers on hand. Whether you are a complete beginner with no idea what you are looking for or an experienced drummer with years on the road under your belt, our staff can absolutely help you with whatever you are looking for.
It has always been my belief that one does not deserve to stay in business just because he / she has a business. I firmly believe that you need to offer the customer a reason to come to you. We strive to do this with incredible service by real drummers, unique products, lessons, music camps and local clinics with guest artists. Because of this, I feel confident that you will have a very pleasant experience while dealing with us.
Thank you for reading our story. From all of us here at the shop, happy drumming!
